Unit Founding Member passes away

We are sorry to report that one of the Peace Garden Unit’s founding members has passed away after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Some of you may not remember him, but Robert Detlaff was a walking source of knowledge and skill.  He was a talented woodworker, hard-working farmer and an avid birder – from him I learned how to spot a tiny finch in flight just by their scalloped dance across the sky.  He and his wife Shirley were so welcoming and gracious to us at our very first unit rally.  Robert was a past unit president and served as the presiding officer at the 2007 Fall Installation Rally.  His Airstream was a masterpiece of woodwork – at first glance you could tell he took great pride in his trailer – his love affair with camping spanned decades and his family was often helping with and sharing in the festivities.

Robert was 89 years young and passed away in a Minot healthcare facility. Funeral Service are 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Minot. Visitation: Friday, April 7, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot. In lieu of flowers and plants please consider sending a memorial donation to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, ND Alzheimer’s Association or to an organization of your choice.  To read his complete obituary, go to:

Welcome New Members!

Just received word that we have some new members in the North Dakota Peace Garden Unit!  Douglas and Marie Jensen are from Aberdeen, South Dakota and it look like they now have the honors of having the oldest Airstream in the Unit, a 22-foot trailer born in 1957!  We are all looking forward to meeting you, and to meeting your Vintage Airstream.  Welcome to the friendliest unit in WBCCI!

2008 Unit Directory is now ready!

The 2008 Membership Directory is now ready and has been mailed to all unit members.  For those members who haven’t return yet from your wintering grounds, it will be waiting for you when you get home.

New in this year’s Directory is a Membership Tool Kit CD with many useful documents, including the most recent revision of the WBCCI Blue Book, and registration coupons for this summer’s International Rally at Bozeman, and the Region 7 Voyageur Rally in Thunder Bay, plus a membership application you can print out as you find potential recruits.  Inside the Directory is our Unit Constitution and Bylaws as ratified last September, details of our activities this year, and recruiting “tools” such as the “Check Us Out!” cards with the rally schedule on the back, and mail in post cards for people looking for more information on WBCCI.  Please use use these items, as they are of no value still bound in the Directory at the end of the year.
